The right cold vehicle for your industry is | matched by load, temperature, and size.

Every sector moves a different load at a different temperature. This is the quick way to see which chiller van, freezer van or refrigerated truck fits yours — and what size to book.

Three questions decide your vehicle

You don’t need to be a refrigeration expert. Answer these three, and the table below points you to the right van or truck. We confirm the exact fit when you enquire.

1. What temperature?

Fresh but not frozen sits at 0–8 °C (chiller). Frozen solid needs −18 °C or below (freezer). Carrying both means multi-temp.

2. How much load?

Weight and pallet count set the size from a 1-ton last-mile van up to a 5-ton van or a pallet-capacity refrigerated truck.

3. How many drops?

Lots of small stops favour a nimble van; long bulk runs and inter-emirate routes favour a truck. Door discipline matters most on multi-drop.

What each sector needs — and why

A closer look at the load, the temperature it rides at, the vehicle that fits, and the one handling detail that most often decides whether it arrives in condition.

Restaurants & Catering

Fresh ingredients, dairy, prepped meals, and some frozen stock are supplied to the kitchen.

Vehicle

Typical Size

Typical size

1 ton to 2 Ton

Multi-drop routes: pre-cool, load coldest goods last, keep door-open time short at each kitchen.

Supermarkets & Retail

Mixed chilled and frozen grocery lines on scheduled restocking runs.

Vehicle

Multi-temp van / chiller truck

Typical size

3 ton to 5 ton

Chilled and frozen on one route needs a dual-zone build so neither band drifts.

Dairy & Produce

Milk, cheese, yogurt, fruit, and vegetables from growers, packers, and wholesalers.

Vehicle

Dairy & produce transport

Typical size

3ton to 5 ton

Dairy is tight at 0–4 °C pre-cooling matters more here than almost anywhere.

Ice Cream & Frozen Desserts

Ice cream, gelato and frozen desserts, factory to store or event.

Vehicle

Freezer van / freezer truck

Typical size

1 ton to 3 ton

Ice cream is unforgiving; even a brief warm spell can cause ice crystals to form. Deep-freeze only.

Meat & Poultry

Fresh cuts and frozen meat and poultry, abattoir or importer to trade.

Vehicle

Chiller or freezer van/truck

Typical size

2 ton to 5 ton

Fresh and frozen meat are different bands — never mix them in a single-zone van.

Seafood & Fish

Fresh catch on ice and frozen seafood, harbour and market to kitchen.

Vehicle

Chiller (iced) or freezer van

Typical size

1 ton to 3 ton

Fresh fish rides coldest of the chill band, on ice — speed from harbour is everything.

Pharma, Vaccines & Healthcare

Medicines, vaccines, biologics and clinical samples for clinics and distributors.

Vehicle

GDP-aligned chiller van, monitored

Typical size

1 ton to 2 ton

Excursions must be provable, not just avoided — live monitoring and logged handover are the point.

Florists & Events

Cut flowers and fresh blooms for florists, wholesalers and event stylists.

Vehicle

Chiller van

Typical size

1 Ton

Blooms wilt in minutes at 45°C; a chilled, humidity-friendly hold keeps them event-ready.

Bakery & Confectionery

Cream cakes, chilled dough, pastries and chocolate.

Vehicle

Chiller / cool van

Typical size

1 ton to 2 ton

Chocolate wants cool, not cold — too cold and it blooms. A steady mid-range hold is safest.

Food & Beverage (FMCG)

Packaged chilled and frozen FMCG lines and beverages, upstream distribution.

Vehicle

Chiller/freezer van & truck

Typical size

3 ton to 5 ton

Volume distribution favours trucks — right-size to pallet count, not just weight.

Hotels & Hospitality

Mixed fresh, frozen and banquet supplies, often restocked overnight.

Vehicle

Multi-temp van / truck

Typical size

2 ton to 5 ton

Overnight restocking uses cooler night air and clear roads; schedule cold runs before service.

Cloud Kitchens & Meal Prep

Prepped meals and ingredients for delivery-first and meal-kit operations.

Vehicle

Chiller van

Typical size

1 ton to 2 ton

High-frequency small drops in a nimble, pre-cooled 1-ton van outperform an oversized one.

Choosing cold transport by industries

It comes down to your goods’ temperature band. Fresh food, dairy, produce, flowers, and most pharma rides at 0–8°C in a chiller van. Anything that must stay frozen, like ice cream, frozen meat, or frozen desserts, needs a freezer van at −18°C or below. Carrying both on one route? A multi-temperature van runs each band in its own zone.

Match size to load and drops: small last-mile work (florists, pharmacies, cafés) suits a 1-ton van; daily multi-drop restocking a 2-ton; route distribution (supermarkets, dairy, FMCG) a 3-ton; and bulk fresh loads a 5-ton van or a refrigerated truck for pallets.

Yes, a multi-temperature van or truck is partitioned into separate zones, so you can run 0–8°C chilled and −18°C frozen on the same route without either band drifting. It’s the standard choice for supermarkets, hotels and mixed catering loads.

Yes. Pharmaceutical and vaccine loads travel in GDP-aligned chiller vehicles held at 2–8°C (or frozen where required), with live temperature monitoring and logged handover so any excursion is provable, not just avoided. See our pharma cold transport page.
